Our Building Project
We will use this page to keep everyone abreast of our exciting redevelopment project which gets going in Autumn 2017.
We are redeveloping all our community rooms, and we hope that our new and much improved facilities will help us to live out our mission to be a beacon of Christ in the local area. We will have vastly improved rooms for church and local community groups to use. We are very excited about how these alterations are going to enhance our mission.
But the building works are going to be disruptive. The church itself is not being refurbished, but the office, the halls, the kitchen and the toilets will be out of use.
The Bennett Lounge is not being modified and with some helpful accommodation works from our builders we have been able to continue to use this room for some time, but it is now out of service.
Alternative arrangements that church groups have made are listed below. We are hugely grateful to friends from neighbouring churches who have accommodated our "refugees".
We ask everyone to bear with us and we apologise for the inconvenience. The contractors have securely fenced and screened off all the areas where they are working but please take care when you are around church. The path from the vestry door around the back of the halls to the rear entrance is now blocked off. Two massive containers now take up part of the car park, and the rest of it is in use by the contractors for their compound.
The builders started in earnest at the beginning of October and if everything goes to plan they should finish in July. New walls are taking shape now, and the curved roof above the new rooms is taking shape.
The contractors have kindly allowed us to take some pictures of their progress from time to time. We will put these up regularly on our Facebook page, so visit us there to see what's been happening.
During the building works:
Parking - with the car park out of use, please try to leave the spaces on Lichfield Road for those with mobility problems, and park at the station or even come to church by other means.
Temporary toilet facilities are now in use, installed close to the Bennett Lounge. It's hard to miss the temporary wooden steps! There is also an accessible toilet beside the vestry.
Office facilities will be restricted and you may not be able to visit, but you will be able to contact the office by post, email and telephone as usual. There will be a mobile number in use - see the contact page.
Access into church will be through the main entrance and, for those needing level access, through the vestry. We have a drop off point by to the roundabout and volunteers are on hand before Sunday morning services to help and guide people from there around the side of church to the vestry where there is level access to church.
Refreshments - will continue after morning services as best we can, but will be served in the transept outside the vestry door. With much reduced facilities during the works, we hope everyone will forgive the use of paper cups.
Junior Church has alternative arrangements. Crèche will meet in the transept; Primary will move to a small room near the front door of church; and Juniors and Seniors will meet in a house nearby and join the end of the service. Junior Church apologises to the rest of the church community for any disruption when we all pile into the service at around 11.20!
The Uniformed Organisations have made alternative arrangements too (all at the normal meeting times). Rainbows, Brownies and Guides will meet in church; Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will meet in the United Reform Church at Park Road in Sutton; and Explorer Scouts will meet at Ark Community Church in St James Road.
Monday Prayer Group will continue to meet but somewhere else in church instead of the Bennett Lounge.
Monday Fellowship will meet at their usual time, but in church.
Ladies Friendship Club will also meet as usual, but in the church instead of the Bennett Lounge.
Lunch Club will also meet as usual, but at the Baptist Church in Grange Lane.
Flower Guild will continue to meet at their normal time too, but at Streetly Methodist Church.
Donations for Birmingham City Mission. The donations box has found a new temporary home in the front entrance under the table. The monthly collections will resume but the table will be set up somewhere convenient in church.
Fairtrade Stall will still appear monthly but will be set up in church.
