The Sutton Park Circuit of which we are part is looking at ways to help with the desperate refugee crisis in Europe. The latest developments in Calais have only made this even more urgent with the arrival of many unaccompanied minors.
If you feel the same and you want to be a part of our efforts, please get in touch with us at the office.
We are lobbying our Government and you might add your voice too. This is a whole world problem, and it needs the whole world to act. Click here for some resources to help you get in touch with your MP.
We also intend to help locally, and you can get involved with that.
You can contribute financially through the Circuit's justgiving page to the efforts we are making ourselves via the Methodist Church World Mission Fund (Registered charity number 1132208).
You can contribute your skills. Refugees recently arrived in the UK have many needs. Click here for more information about the huge number of ways you could meet those needs from legal advice to befriending to helping with accommodation. You can email offers of help to firstname.lastname@example.org
You can contribute things refugees will need. There's a list below of items we are especially interested in collecting, but maybe you can offer something else instead? You can email offers of help to email@example.com
· large items such as beds, mattresses (must have fire safety mark), wardrobes, chest of drawers;
· furniture such as dining room table & chairs, sofas (fabrics must have fire safety mark);
· electrical goods such as fridge, cooker, washing machine, toaster;
· smaller items such as towels, bedlinen, curtains
Recently we have been advised that there is a pressing urgent need for small sized men's jumpers and for luggage items like cases with wheels and rucksacks. Can you help?
You can pray with us
Almighty and merciful God, whose Son became a refugee and had no place to call his own, look with mercy on those today who are fleeing from danger, those who are homeless and hungry. Bless those who work to bring them relief. Inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts, and guide the nations of the world towards that day when all will rejoice in your Kingdom of justice and peace.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
Heavenly Father, you are the source of all goodness, generosity and love. We thank you for opening the hearts of many to those who are fleeing for their lives. Help us now to open our arms in welcome, and reach out our hands in support, that the desperate may find new hope, and lives torn apart be restored.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who fled persecution at His birth and at His last triumphed over death.
